日本語訳では3回に。音読したときに、3回のほうがいいような気がします。

あわわ。本編第一声がとっつぁんのセリフ…。ちなみにとっつぁんは「The　Gaffer」Pity
「だの、」の句読点がリズムを与えてますね〜。

この最後の、「では」ってところが好きです。

「用意はいい？」ときかれたドワーフたちの答え。でたー。瀬田訳！瀬田さんの日本語センスが感じられます。でもこのセリフきくと、最後のシーンを思い出す…。

原文はちゃんと韻をふんでいるんですね。コレ。瀬田訳は…拍を合わせてるんですよね？８拍？「とぐちよりでて」よりも「とぐちよりいでて」の方が良くないですか？読みかた。

すいません。訳がどうとかよりもガンダルフが「昔よりふけてみえた」ことに驚いてしまいました。それって何歳くらいに見えるってことよ？

知り合いのホビット、ということでペレグリン氏を思い出したのは私だけでしょうか？

この物語の核となる「pity」について。原文はWhat a pity thatk〜残念・Pity憐れみ・同情。
この2つを「情け」という言葉で訳した瀬田貞二はすごいと思います。
…私が幼い頃読んだ「不思議の国のアリス」は似たような言葉遊びのところに注釈がついてましたよ、トホホ。
フロドの旦那も旅に出る前にはこんなことを仰っています。まだまだ人間できてません。ガンダルフのPityを知る重要な部分なのでちょっと長文でだしてみました。
mercy：慈悲
‘No!’cried Gandalf，springing to his feet　--　His eyes flashed and his face was lit as by a fire within．‘Do not tempt me! For I do not wish to become like the Dark Lord himself．Yet the Way of the Ring to my heart by pity，pity for weakness and the desire of the strength to do good．Do not tempt me!- 「だめじゃ！」ガンダルフは跳び上がって、そう叫びました。……かれの目はかっともえ、顔はまるで心中の火にやかれているように、赤くなりました。「誘惑せんでくれ！なぜならわしは冥王その人のようになりたくないからじゃ。しかし、指輪がわしの心を誘うとすれば、憐れみからじゃ。弱気を憐れみ、善をなす力がほしいからじゃ。わしを誘惑せんでくれ！… P139ガンダルフ
「誘惑せんでくれ！」も日常語推奨。
ガンダルフ自らによるガンダルフのPity論。そして指輪の怖さについて。
ガラドリエルさまのとき同様、態度にまででてしまうのは、己の持つ力の大きさのせいなのだろうか？

サムワイズ・ギャムジーまともに登場。私にはイマイチ、サムという人がわかりません…。
こういうときにはMEを使うんですね。
hooray：感嘆詞＝hurray（万歳！(喜び・歓迎・激励などを表わす叫び声）

「よいホビットさん、もうヤル気うせたのかよ！えっ？」
初めて読んだときは衝撃的でした…。
‘Very good：I will go east，and I will make for Rivendell．I will take Sam to visit the Elves；he will be delighted．’He spoke lightly；but his heart was moved suddenly with a desire to see the house of Elrond Halfelven，and breathe the air of that deep valley where many of the Fair Folk still dwelt in peace．
 「そりゃけっこうです。わたしは東に向かいましょう。裂け谷に向かって行きましょう。サムを連れて、エルフたちを訪ねましょう。サムはさぞ大喜びするでしょうね。」かれは口さきでは明るくいったものの、心の中はにわかに、（半人）半エルフのエルロンドの館をこの目で見て、今もなお美しい者たちが平和に住みついているというあの深い谷間の空気を吸ってみたいという、はげしい望みにゆすぶられました。 P150フロド
ページをめくると、突然ヤル気です。…ついていけませんぜ、旦那。
ガン爺がのせるの上手いのかな…？

あー。こんなつまらないコメントに行数とっちゃいましたネ…。

映画でガン爺が初登場で歌ってましたね！なんでこれはサントラに入ってないのかなー。お気に入りなんですが。

わ・私はホビットの歌のほうが好きです…。

どうでもいいことなのかもしれませんが、２番はギルソニエル→エルベレス。４番はエルベレス→ギルソニエルの順で謳われています。なぜなんでしょう？

誰が喋ったのかわかりません。
ホビットたちって退屈！？
メリピピのように退屈じゃないのがイレギュラーってことなんですね…。

「内緒話はできないよ！古き言葉の大家がここにいるぞ。ビルボもなかなかの言葉の達人だった。幸あれ、エルフの友よ！」		 P185フロド
こういうときにサッといえるフロドの人柄ってすごいんでしょうね。そしてビルボを引き合いにだすギルドールもわかってる人なんだと思います。

ココらへんの歩いている描写、とても難しいです。すっ飛ばして読んでしまいました…。メソメソ。

映画のガンダルフ初登場の「遅い！」「わしは遅れん」のやりとりって此処を意識したものだと思うのですが、どうでしょう？
それにしても、この「魔法使」ってガンダルフ限定ですよね？サルマンも実は怒りっぽかったり？
meddle:干渉する。おせっかいをやく。
subutle：微妙な、なんともいえない。敏感な。
‘And it is also said，’answered Frodo：‘Go not to the Elves for counsel，for they will say both no and yes．’ 「これもよくいうことですが、」…「エルフに意見を求めるな、よしとあしとを、ともにいう、ってね。」 P193フロド
「よくいうこと」というのはホビット間で？
そ・それともガンダルフかビルボの口癖？ホビットの間ではエルフってメジャーな存在ではなかったと思うのです。どうなんですか、フロドさん？
ところで、良し悪しともにいうアドバイスってダメなんですか？客観的意見としてベストかと思いますが。
